Who will be performing the procedure?

Dr. Fay will perform the vasectomy. Your procedure will not be with anyone else in the clinic. 

The procedure itself will last approximately 10 minutes. Expect to be at the clinic for 40 to 50 total minutes. This allows for signing consent forms and preparation for procedure.
Vasectomy is designed to be as pain free as possible. The only discomfort a patient may experience is related to the administration of local anaesthetic which is brief and minimal.

It is recommended that patients do minimal physical activity for 48 hours. After 48 hours, a return to work is expected for most patients, unless their job is very physical. If this applies to you, speak to Dr. Fay. You may also request a Doctor’s note (doctors notes are not covered by MSP and thus there will be a charge a $50 charge for this).

No, you are not considered sterile until your semen sample has been analyzed three months following the procedure and Dr. Fay has contacted you with the results.
Yes, vasectomy should in no way affect your urinary tract or ability to pee.
There is no definite reason why a patient cannot consume alcohol or cannabis post vasectomy, however we recommend against intoxication due to the risk of falls/trauma to the scrotum.
Can I drive home after the procedure?
Whilst you will be physically capable of driving, we advise you to get a ride home.
Whenever you feel comfortable; we advise waiting 48 hours. A small amount of blood in the first ejaculate or two is an uncommon but harmless finding.
If you feel that you will be very anxious, please request medication from Dr. Fay BEFORE the day of your procedure. Dr. Fay can arrange for medication to be collected at your local pharmacy. You should take this 20 minutes before your procedure. You can not drive after taking Ativan, so please arrange a ride.
Vasectomies should be considered irreversible. Whilst private reversals are offered elsewhere, the success rate is low and is a costly procedure.
Wait one week before exercising or lifting more than 25 lbs. This will help prevent secondary complications. The first day you return to exercise, take it easy, do approximately 50% of your usual exertion. If you feel okay the next day, you can return to normal exercise levels.

Patients who underwent vasectomy at ZEN medical clinic can call the Zen Medical Clinic, or email Dr Fay. If you feel very unwell, or have massive swelling (an uncommon occurrence) go to the Emergency Department at your nearest hospital

Most patients who undergo a vasectomy have small children or pets, and lifting them is unavoidable at times. Do your best not to lift them if it can be avoided for one week following the procedure.
24 hours after the procedure. Do not scrub at the scrotum, just let water run off your genitals. Avoid soap or scented shower gels on scrotum for the first week.
